Ovako is a world-leading speciality steel company that has long worked to reduce climate emissions. The advanced products require clean raw material and therefore sponge iron from FerroSilva is an important component in a future raw material mix. This is especially true if the closure of blast furnaces in Sweden and the rest of the world leads to a shortage of clean scrap.

The site where FerroSilva’s first facilities are to be built was previously home to the company’s blast furnace, which was demolished a few decades ago. The infrastructure that Ovako can offer with railway connections, electric power, etc. is of great importance, as well as short transports of the end product sponge iron to the steel plant.
